It's hard to believe but we are officially kicking off the Advent season on Sunday, November 29th!  Advent in Latin means "Coming" and this is the time each year that we as Christians start to celebrate the 4 weeks prior to the birth of Christ Jesus and the Christmas holiday.

Advent reminds Christians of the sacred meaning of Christmas. Despite the secular preparations taking place, eg buying presents and going to parties, Advent reminds Christians to remember and prepare for the birth of Jesus. They may also attend carol services as part of Advent.

The Advent wreath is something that many churches will utilize as it includes 5 candles that are lit each week. The four candles surrounding the wreath are for Hope, Love, Joy and Peace and the 5th candle is the Christ Candle and it is lit on Christmas Eve.

So, as we head into this Advent season I hope that everyone can stop and pray each day for Hope, Love, Joy and Peace not only to come into their own lives but the lives of everyone.  This has been a difficult year for everyone with the pandemic and lots of personal loss.

However; we need to hold fast to our belief that Jesus will indeed come back to gather his church and we will be taken into Heaven to be with him for all of eternity!  Let's hold onto this Advent season and remember that we are getting closer with each passing day to gaining our entrance into Heaven!
